InnoVision 2024

Health Science Updates: Diagnosis and Treatment of Cancer and Human-Computer Interaction

About the InnoVision

The InnoVision summit is an annual innovation themed event that highlights the latest advancements in science and technology. The audience are professionals, businesspeople, academics, students, science and tech enthusiasts, and others who are interested in exploring and learning about new scientific developments. The objective of the summit is to inform the audience about how their lives, their careers, and the world will be impacted by the newest techniques and technologies, so that they can envision possibilities and make informed decisions about their career, business and life.

InnoVision 2024

The theme of InnoVision 2024 is medical and health sciences, covering two main areas of research and development: cancer treatment and diagnosis, which affect the lives of a large proportion of humanity, and human-computer interaction, which has the potential to make life easier and fun for not only people with injuries and diseases, but also everyone else around the world.

Location: Zoom Webinar

19:30 – 20:30   The Wonder of Human-Computer Interaction: Embracing Ubiquitous Technology to Complement, Scale, and Extend Traditional Healthcare

Numerous technologies are being developed to augment the capabilities of humans. Many of these tools are being designed for improved accessibility, such as brain-computer interfaces and exoskeletons that assist individuals with severe physical disabilities in controlling electronic devices. However, the sensors on more commonplace technologies like smartphones and wearables can also augment people's capabilities. For example, the microphones on these devices can be used to listen for sounds that are either hard to hear or difficult to characterize. This presentation will provide an overview of innovations at the intersection between human-computer interaction and healthcare, and some specific applications of signal processing and machine learning on sensor data to assess two facets of a person's health: cardiac health and respiratory health.

20:30 - 22:00   The State of Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment

There is hardly anyone who does not know someone who is afflicted with cancer. The impact of cancer is so ubiquitous on our lives today that it behooves us to dedicate a serious session on this topic. For this purpose, we have assembled an expert panel from the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Canada’s leading cancer research and treatment hospital, to provide us with a comprehensive overview of the current and future tools for the diagnosis and treatment of various types of cancer. The panelists will also share with us their own discoveries and diagnostic and therapeutic products.

This session will be interactive. Audience will have ample opportunities to ask questions.
