Cost Accountant

Job Title: Cost Accountant

Report to: Controller

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain the standard costing model
• Review standard and actual costs for inaccuracies
• Validate the cost of goods sold as part of the month-end close; review, analyze and report on inventory valuation, raw materials, WIP, direct and indirect labor, overhead costs and related variances
• Assist in coordination of the annual physical inventories
• Investigate inventory counting variances and resolve issues
• Assist in the ongoing development, data accumulation and developing KPIs and reporting on KPIs to better track the performance of the plant
• Act as the subject matter expert for reporting in SAP and BI from a costing and manufacturing perspective
• Perform other duties as assigned

Position Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
• Have completed a Canadian CPA, CMA, CA, CGA designation and 3+ years of experience within a plant-based operation costing position
• Heavy SAP experience is a must
• Knowledge of both financial reporting standards (IFRS) & managerial accounting practices

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

• Analytical and problem-solving experience
• Excellent organizational and planning skills as this role is forever changing due to the new projects driven by new business opportunities
• Must be a self-starter and have demonstrated ability to add value to reports and analysis
• Able to work both independently and as part of a team
