CPAC Introductory Taxation Course

Understanding Canada Revenue Agency’s Policies and Procedures and Canada’s Income Tax System
This training course covers the basic principles of income taxation in Canada – basic personal taxation, taxation for sole proprietors, and the fundamentals of corporate taxation and GST/HST elements.
This course offers a basic understanding of the Income Tax Act and Regulations used to determine income tax liability, primarily as it applies to individuals. It also emphasizes tax planning decisions for the owner and/or manager of a Canadian-controlled private corporation.
You will learn the basics of preparing individual and corporate tax returns, such as identifying different sources of income, determining how they are taxed for individuals, and understanding who is liable for taxation in Canada. You will also learn the administrative and enforcement policies of the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). Additionally, you will learn about corporation tax requirements, exposure, and liability under the Canadian Income Tax Act, as well as the overall structure of taxation of income earned by corporations in Canada.

About the Instructor
Professor Walji has extensive experience in various aspects of the accounting profession, including financial, management, auditing, and taxation. He has worked as a professional auditor with the CRA for many years, handling a range of disciplines from taxation audits to investigations. His background includes both private and public accounting experience.
Professor Walji is a fellow member of The Institute of Financial Accountants of the UK and The Institute of Public Accountants of Australia. He also holds a Master’s degree from Deakin University, Australia. He is actively involved in management and taxation consulting. He has taught at different Ontario colleges and has trained foreign professional accountants to help them integrate into the accounting profession in Canada.
