Lest We Forget Commemoration of Nanjing Massacre 1937

In 2017, Ontario passed Motion 66, officially designating December 13 as Nanjing Massacre Commemorative Day, and recognizing the significance of remembering and education of the human atrocity.

The Nanjing Massacre, which started from December 13, 1937, remains one of the most horrific atrocities committed during World War II in Asia. In just six weeks, the Japanese military indiscriminately slaughtered 300,000 Chinese civilians, including women and children.

This commemoration event aims to share a collective reflection on war history, human dignity, and peace.

Program:

• Screening of the highly acclaimed film “Dead to Rights

Since the film’s release in July 2025, Dead to Rights has captivated tens of millions of audiences with its powerful portrayal of the characters’ physical, emotional, and psychological struggles in the face of life and death during the Nanjing Massacre. The screening will come with English and Chinese subtitles.

• Musical performance by the Toronto Pops Orchestra.

This commemorative event will provide a platform for Ontario residents, particularly members of the Asian-Canadian community, to remember and pass on this historical legacy. The event is expected to have over 600 community members and representatives from different levels of government.
