Breakout Session of the 5th CPAC Education Day: Being positively and actively involved in your children’s learning and school lives?

On October 27th, 2012 Education Foundation of Chinese Professional Association of Canada will be hosting its 5th Annual Education Day. Building on the success of past Education Days this year’s event promises to connect more students to educational opportunities that best suit their aptitudes and career goals. The event will be held at Mary Ward Catholic Secondary School in Scarborough.

CPAC Education Day sponsored by HSBC Bank Canada is one of the largest education events held annually in the immigrant community drawing more than 2,000 students, parents, and educators. The event’s objective is to create awareness and provide information about the Canadian education system and its available services to the families of newcomers.

Education Day gives students and parents information using a range of formats. Representatives from school boards, colleges and universities will set up display booths and provide information about their programs. Over forty booths including representatives from the University of Toronto, Queen’s University and York University have been confirmed. 14 classroom sized breakout sessions and a whole-day student forum will also be held.

Teacher Wayne Ji will host one breakout session titled “Being positively and actively involved in your children’s learning and school lives?.”

In this seminar, the speaker will introduce: – Education system in Canada: Philosophy of education in Canada, Public and  Private school, Administration, The role of principal, Guardians and teachers, The role of parents in education, The similarities and differences between the Canadian and the Chinese education system. – Diploma Requirements: Credit system, 40 hour community Involvement, Ontario Secondary School Literacy Requirement (OSSLT), EQAO, ESL; Ranking (Fraser), Ontario Student Record (OSR). – Courses and Exits: University preparation courses, College preparation courses, University /College preparation courses, Workplace preparation courses, Open courses, Course Coding system, Requirements for University and college. – Others: Students behavior, Attendance, Case conference, Extra school Activities, Trips, Tutoring and upgrading mark and more.

Wayne (Weixing) Ji has got the Bachelor of Education from University of Windsor, Ph.D from York University, Master of Science from Sichuan University (China), and Bachelor of Science from Xuzhou Normal University (China).       He is a full time teacher of Senator O’Connor College School, TCDSB (Toronto Catholic District School Board) , Toronto, Ontario, Canada by teaching Gr 9-12 Math and Gr11-12 Physics; He used to be full time Math/ Physics teacher of Xuzhou High School of Science and Technology, Xuzhou, China, teaching Grade 10-12 Math/Physics; and full time lecturer of China University of Mining and Technology, Xuzhou, China by teaching  university Mathematics and Physics.
