CPAC Career Conference and Job Fair Attracts Large Crowd

Over 1,000 internationally educated professionals in the Greater Toronto Area attended the CPAC Professionals Day 2014, a large-scale career development conference and job fair held today at Sheraton Parkway Toronto North Hotel. With inspiring keynote presentation and informative and educational workshops, together with dozens of leading employers from various sectors, CPAC Professionals Day is one of the most highly attended events for in the immigrant community in the GTA.

“Our objective of this event is to help internationally trained professionals and immigrants succeed in Canada. The biggest help we can give you for a successful life is to help you with your employment, your career, and your licenses. When your job is in order, all other aspects of life become easier to handle. This is why we organize this event year after year, for the last 13 years. ” said Ms. Margaret Yang, President of the Chinese Professionals Association of Canada, at the opening ceremony of the event.

One of the attractions of this year’s event was the keynote presentation delivered by Royson Ng, President of Samtack Inc. An animated speaker, Mr. Ng shared in detail his success story. Born and raised in Malaysia, he came to Canada in 1991 and started his career with various entry level jobs before joining Samtack. Under his leadership, the company has grown to be a leading distributor of personal computers, consumer electronics, dry food and health & beauty products. Mr. Ng has received multiple awards as a successful entrepreneur, as well as for his contributions to the community.  “I am sure you, too, can be successful in achieving your personal and professional goals. It is never too late to start building your career in Canada but it is all about you taking the first step,” said Mr. Ng.

The keynote session was followed by 10 breakout workshops on various career development topics delivered by employers, industry specialists, trainers and career consultants. New for 2014 were sessions focusing on pressing issues faced by young immigrants today, such as how to choose a career, and where to turn for assistance on job search.

The Marketplace/Job fair was once again one of the main attractions of Professionals Day. Over 40 employers and service agencies took part, bringing in a wide range of career opportunities to the event, including jobs in IT, engineering, public service, finance and accounting etc. Participating in the job fair were prominent employers such as BMO, Bell Canada, Canada Revenue Agency, Canadian Security Intelligence Services, Correctional Service Canada, Toronto Police, Toronto Fire Services etc.

CPAC Professionals Day has received generous support from long-time sponsors including BMO Bank of Montreal as the Presenting sponsor and CGA Ontario as the Diamond Sponsor.

Since 2002, CPAC has been hosting Professionals Day as an annual conference on career and professional development for internationally trained professionals (ITPs).
