CPAC Director Bang-Gu Jiang Runs for Nomination for MP

CPAC is nonpolitical organization. However, one of its tasks is to promote good citizenship, leadership and participation in the Canadian democracy, regardless of one’s political affiliation. It is in this spirit of participation that we report to you that one of our board members, Ms Julie Bang-Gu Jiang, a Toronto lawyer, announced her intention to run for nomination within the Liberal Party for the newly drawn Federal Riding of Markham-Unionville.

Since her official announcement on December 7, 2013, Ms Jiang has received widespread support within the Chinese community. Among the esteemed guests who were present at the offcial announcement were Hon. Michael Chan, MPP for Markham-Unionville, Hon. Jim Karygiannis, MP for Scarborough-Agincourt, and Ms. Sandra Yeung Racco, Provincial candidate for Thornhill.

Born in Sichuan, China, Ms Jiang taught Constitutional law in China before immigrating to Canada with her family in 1989. In 2003, she obtained her J.D. from Osgoode Hall Law School, and started her own practice a year later.

Ms Jiang has led a life of leadership and activism in Canada for the betterment of her community and those around her. As the President of Sichuan Association of Canada, she spearheaded local relief efforts for the 2009 Sichuan earthquake. Not long after she became the President of Canada-China Realty Professional Association, Ms Jiang was appointed to the Oversight Committee of the York Region Police Board.

For her outstanding achievements, Ms Jiang received the 2013 Chinese Business Excellence Award for Social and Community Influence, as well as the 2013 Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.

Not only is Ms Jiang an accomplished professional, she is also a successful mother of two. Her son Jason is now attending Harvard Law School, and her daughter is currently enrolled in Victoria College at the University of Toronto.
