Job Summary:

Reporting to the program manager, the Employment Counselor/Job Developer is responsible for building partnership with employers to create work placement and employment opportunities for participants of CPAC’s pre-apprenticeship programs. The incumbent will also work with program participants to prepare them for placement/employment through job readiness training and one-on-one counselling. Working with the program team and external partners, the EC will assist in promoting CPAC’s services and programs, recruiting program participants and providing support to the delivery of training activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Research on labour market trend and sectoral employer hiring needs
  • Reach out to employers and secure work placement/apprenticeship employment opportunities
  • Work with employers and participants in training plan development and execution
  • Monitor work placement progress and provide support to participants and/or employers at various stages including job retention
  • Deliver training workshops to program participants on job search strategies and lead development, resuming/cover letter writing and interview skills
  • Provide one-on-one counseling on marketing tool development, interview preparation, job search techniques and placement/employment preparation
  • Assist clients in the development of appropriate work habits, behaviors and attitude for the workplace
  • Assist in promotion of CPAC’s programs to job seekers, employers and community agencies
  • Assist in screening and intake assessment of program applicants
  • Make referrals to other CPAC programs or partner agencies as needed
  • Liaise with training service providers and assist in the delivery of training activities
  • Maintain accurate documentation and provide statistical information as requested
  • Assist in research and preparation of reports, funding proposals and other documents
  • Organize career development conferences, job fairs and other career related events
  • Provide support for career related programs and services
  • Other duties as assigned by management

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in career/employment counseling or equivalent
  • Experience in job development/employment counselling, preferably in skilled trades sectors
  • Sound knowledge of labour market trend, job search strategies and job development
  • Outgoing personality, strong initiative and relationship building skills with employers, and ability to successfully place clients with employers
  • Proven ability to work effectively with diverse clients including youth and newcomers
  • Excellent time management and organization skills, able to work well with minimal supervision
  • Must be a team player and able to work with different personalities and working styles
  • Proficiency in MS Office Applications: Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Access, and internet
