What You’ll Be Doing

Reporting to Senior Director ESG Reporting,  the Director ESG Reporting will play a crucial role in supporting CIBC’s ESG reporting activities within the Finance function. The Director will focus on conducting the Finance reviews of ESG disclosures, ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and compliance of ESG disclosures, while also driving the development and implementation of ESG reporting processes and controls. The Director is accountable for supporting the Senior Director in preparing the organization for evolving external reporting requirements related to ESG.  

The role will support the Senior Director in developing a reporting strategy that takes into account evolving requirements and trends, and will act as a liaison between stakeholders across the bank and the external bodies to advance ESG disclosure related advocacy efforts. 

The role will drive collaboration with stakeholders from across the bank to support consistent and well controlled external ESG related reporting, which will include identifying and interpretating new requirements and ensuring that new processes and controls are implemented in the various functional areas to support the requirements.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Disclosure Policy and Oversight of ESG Disclosure Process & Control – Ensure new ESG disclosure requirements are understood and provide guidance and oversight to process owners in various functional areas supporting ESG reporting requirements to ensure they are subject to appropriate controls in compliance with the bank’s Control framework and comply with relevant regulatory requirements. Shape future ESG-related disclosure requirements by considering various ESG reporting regimes and emerging disclosure trends, and supporting advocacy efforts on ESG-related matters, including through the Canadian Bankers Association.  
  • Reporting and Effective Challenge – Support our external reporting process for the ESG disclosure documents, including the Sustainability Report and Climate Report, and ESG disclosures contained in the quarterly and annual report and CIBC’s Management Proxy Circular. Coordinate evolving assurance requirements in support of evolving ESG disclosures. Support the preparation of ESG-related materials for senior executives and the Audit Committee.  Coordinate the activities of an ESG Disclosure Sub-Committee.
  • Benchmarking – Conduct peer benchmarking and proactively monitors, assesses, and evaluates ESG-related disclosure  trends to derive insights to appropriately inform the reporting strategy for CIBC. Deliver the benchmarking and related insights with stakeholders as part of the process of appropriately evolving our disclosures.

Who you are

  • You can demonstrate 7+ years of relevant work experience with full service financial institutions, in accounting policy, shareholder reporting, regulatory reporting, internal controls or similar roles. You have strong understanding of ESG disclosure standards and regulatory requirements, emerging ESG trends and related reporting matters, processes and control activities, and ESG related frameworks including the SASB, TCFD and ISSB. It is an asset if you have experience with implementing new accounting and / or disclosure requirements that requires collaboration with multiple stakeholders.  Experience with process design, documentation, and control within a large, full service financial institution and ability to identify and implement new controls and processes for new disclosure requirements will be considered an asset as well.
