“English Pronunciation Training Course” will start on October 2, 2012

Speaking clearly is important to success in the Canadian workplace. If people can understand you easily, you will feel more relaxed to communicate well. But pronunciation training receives little attention in the majority of ESL classes. Fortunately, CPAC offers this course and it is never too late to improve.

This 12 week intensive course will focus on the predominant difficulties of native Chinese speakers and allow ample time to refine some individual issues to reduce accent and improve voice quality. Participants should demonstrate a certain level of competency in English and have motivation to improve. Concepts will be reviewed in class and distributed on handouts. There are in-class exercises as well as practice homework. The next class will start on October 2, 2012.

Attendance at class will help you build awareness – the first step towards change. Commitment to home practice is crucial to success. Learning to move your mouth and voice in new ways is like taking a master class in music – you must pay attention to fine details and practice, practice and practice! Over time, your efforts will pay off in the ability to communicate more clearly.

Mr. Mark Prince is TESL Canada certified, holds an honors’ degree in theatre and has studied with some of Canada’s top voice and text coaches. Testimonial from the students

This pronunciation workshop is an excellent opportunity for non-native speakers to improve their pronunciation and to understand what correct sounds should be for certain words by native speaker (e.g., butter, biography, education, etc.). The workshop also raises awareness for us to pay attention to native speakers on how they pronounce or stress some words. The teacher is very knowledgeable in English linguistics and some difficulties facing Chinese English speakers. The workshop is structured well but the teacher is only guiding through the materials. The real and effective benefits are still up to each individual to practice accordingly.

“Although it was a group study class, we have been provided one-on-one teaching / learning opportunity. In addition to pronouncing correctly, Heather taught and demonstrated the technique to produce sound like a native speaker. Heather’s class was very useful and we can benefit in and after class, life-long.”

I am very fortunate to attend this pronunciation class. Compared with other pronunciation classes I have attended, this one is especially designed for Chinese. The instructor demonstrates extensive experience with Chinese and knows exactly the common speaking challenges we face. My favourite part is the one-on-one correction, which tells you what problems you have with which sounds and shows you how to make them right. I highly recommend it to anyone who is willing to improve his/her English speaking skills.

I appreciate Mark for his wonderful English Pronunciation training class at CPAC. He help me figure out what problem I have with pronunciation and communication. Then he provides some applicable advice and practice methods to improve English speaking. After taking his class and learning his pronunciation material, I am more confident to communicate with people in English. Thanks for Mark’s patience and professional teaching experience that make me on the right way to speak in English.
