Speakers Biography

Dr. Songnian Zhou (CEO of Platform Computing)

Platform Computing is a leading company in cluster, grid and cloud management software.

Dr. Zhou’s research during his university studies was the catalyst for the creation of Platform Computing, which he co-founded. Under his leadership, the firm grew from three employees in 1992 to a 500-strong global company, with 15 offices across North America, Europe, and Asia. Recently this year, the firm was acquired by IBM and has become an integral part of IBM’s distributed computing platform.

Dr. Zhou received his B.S in Computer Science from Northeastern University in 1982, and his M.S and Ph.D in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley in 1984 and 1987 respectively, and was previously a professor of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at the University of Toronto.

Dr. Zhou has been recognized for his excellence in leadership and innovation with the Ernst & Young Technology Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2002. In 2001, he was elected a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, and received the Innovation Award for Leadership in Product Development from the Information Technology Research Centre (ITRC) of Ontario for Platform LSF in 1995.

Jeff Zajac (President of Solus One)

Solus One is a multi-national software company headquartered in Vaughan, with offices in Manila, Nairobi and Mexico City.

His company has grown to include 4 distinct product lines including Call Center Software, Political Software, Math Tutoring Software and an E-Learning Leadership Software program.

Prior to being an international entrepreneur, Jeff worked for a number of Multi-nationals including, KPMG, ADP, Sanofi, MDC Communications, AECL, Good Humor Breyers and Bank of Montreal.

In additional to being a Certified Management Accountant, Jeff was also called as a fellow to the society before the age of 40, he also holds a Masters in Leadership from Guelph University and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Toronto. He spends his leisure time playing hockey & golf and sits on a number of Non-Profit Boards
