The 14th CPAC Professionals Day and Job Fair will be held on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015 at Armenian Youth Centre (50 Hallcrown Place, Toronto, ON M2J 1P6).

The free event will present an exciting lineup of speakers, employers and service providers designed to assist internationally trained professionals in their search for successful careers in Canada. The one-day event features a success panel and eight breakout sessions on various career related topics ranging from honing interview skills to managing conflicts in the workplace. With CPAC combining the Professionals Day with their young professionals division (Enlight)’s Encounter Career Development Conference this year, the event will have a selection of workshops for both young and seasoned professionals.

The Government of Ontario (Ontario Public Service, or OPS) offers an award-winning work environment for many professionals to grow their careers.  In this session, Joseph Chen will walk you through the steps towards starting and growing your professional career with the OPS.  The presentation will help you: a) navigate key steps to land your job and start your career; b) strategically manage open job competitions and improve the odds in winning your position; and c) accelerate the growth of your careers with the OPS through some forward-thinking actions.  The presentation will also help you manage your expectations with a few reality checks.

Joseph has held managerial positions with hiring responsibilities during the past 30 years, most of which has been with the public service.  His engagements at IBM Canada, Sick Kids Hospital, TTC and Enbridge were also involved building teams through hiring both IT and non-IT professionals. His last role with the Government of Ontario was in enterprise architecture and system design.  He officially retired in February 2015.
