Leveraging Your Technical Skills to Advance Your Career September 16, 7:30pm @London Pub

Technical skills are the strong suits of many engineers. How do you leverage them to reach your professional goals? The answer lies in combining strong technical skills with strong soft skills. But which soft skills do you need and how do you develop those skills?

This presentation provides answers to these questions by looking at how the system (Canadian organizations) responds to a disturbance (cultural differences). By comparing the unwritten rules of Canadian organizations with the unwritten rules in other countries, we isolate the elements needed to get promoted, manage risk and be successful. Participants will come out of this presentation with concrete, practical ideas that they can bring back to their work and work on in order to get to the next stage of their careers.

Lionel Laroche, Ph.D., P. Eng., Founder and Principal

After that, he branched out into HR consulting and focused on cross-cultural training and coaching. Over the past 16 years, he has worked with over 50,000 people in fourteen countries. This work has enabled him to follow the careers of many professionals over time and therefore understand what makes some people successful while others are not.

Lionel holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology, USA and a “Diplome d’ingenieur polytechnicien” from the Ecole Polytechnique de Paris, France. He has written three books and spoken at over 250 conferences world- wide.
