Job Description
Job Summary:
Reporting to the program manager, the employment counsellor plays a key role in the delivery of CPAC’s mentorship program and leadership training program. Working with the program team, the incumbent will coordinate and assist in all program activities, including planning, promotion, recruitment, delivery and reporting. The employment counsellor will also provide support for career development related conferences, job fairs and other events and initiatives. Training and ongoing support and guidance will be provided to build competency. This is a contract position for a year, with opportunity to become permanent.
Responsibilities:
• Promote the mentorship program and leadership program
• Conduct intake and recruit participants for programs
• Develop resources and recruit mentors, speakers and instructors
• Provide orientation and training to mentors and mentees
• Match mentors and mentees based on their background, interests and needs
• Follow up and provide on-going support for mentor/mentee activities
• Plan and deliver job search and employment skills workshops
• Provide one-on-one counselling to participants
• Develop employment and placement opportunities for participants
• Conduct program evaluation and prepare program reports
• Support annual job fair, professional development activities, and other career development events and projects
• Other duties as assigned
Skills & Qualifications:
• Post-secondary education in career service or equivalent experience
• Knowledge and experience in career services, mentorship and/or leadership training programs
• Experiences in membership service, stakeholder engagement and event management are assets
• Strong conceptualization, planning, organization and coordination abilities
• Superior oral and written communication skills
• Well-developed interpersonal and relationship building skills
• Goal oriented, outgoing personality and a self-starter
• Must have strong work ethics
• Proven ability to work efficiently with diverse clients including immigrant professionals, new college/university graduates and newcomer youth
• Excellent time management and organization skills, able to work well with minimal supervision
