Weekend Workshop – Engineering Failures – Lessons in Professional Ethics

Professionals of all engineering disciplines are welcome to attend

Discusses the ethical lessons learned from three case studies of engineering failures from the utility industry. The presentation is 1 hour followed by a question and answer period and will provide information from OSPE’s continuing professional development advocacy studies, including: 

  • Basis for professional ethics
  • Laws relating to engineering work
  • Three case studies – what happened, why and the ethical lessons
  • Case Study 1 – pipe failure
  • Case Study 2 – vessel damage
  • Case Study 3 – turbine damage
  • Summary of the ethical lessons for engineers

Presenter is Paul Acchione, M. Eng., P. Eng.Paul is a licensed professional engineer in Ontario and is a member of ASME, ANS, IEEE and ISA.   Paul has over 43 years of engineering and management experience in the power generation industry.  Paul was the 2013-14 President and Chair of the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers (OSPE) and is currently its 2014-15 Past Chair and Past Acting CEO.
