Enlight, Young Professionals Division of CPAC will host its 4th Annual Envision Career Discovery Conference this year on March 7th, 2015. This year, as always, Enlight has invited high profile speakers, some of the most outstanding business leaders and academics with a wide range of topics covered providing practical career tips for young professionals.

Career planning is not an activity that should be done once — in high school or college — and then left behind as we move forward in our jobs and careers. Rather, career planning is an activity that is best done on a regular basis. Beth A. Shaw, FCSI, MBA

Managing Director, Equity Capital Markets & Operations at Desjardins Securities Inc.

In her capacity as Managing Director, Equity Capital Markets & Operations at Desjardins Securities Inc., Beth oversees the execution of public and private equity and equity-linked financings for Desjardins Securities’ client base.  She partners with their investment banking professionals advising corporations, private companies and financial sponsors in Canada, the United States and internationally.

Beth joined Desjardins Securities in 2004 and has over 25 years experience in a syndication and equity capital markets role.She holds her FCSI designation and received an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario.

Beth is Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for Dress for Success Toronto, a registered Canadian Charity that changes the lives of Canadians and New Canadians by providing low income women with the necessary professional attire and career development tools that they need to achieve success. An active member of Women In Capital Markets (WCM),  the largest network of professional women in the Canadian capital markets industry, who are committed to attracting and developing a growing pool of talented professionals and advancing those women into senior leadership positions in the industry. WCM connects, coaches and advocates for women in the Canadian capital markets and work to provide the network, skills and support required to excel at every stage of their members careers. Beth is past-Chair of both the Executive Coaching Award and the Executive Coaching Alumni Committees from 2011 – 2014; and is currently a mentor in the Emerging Leaders Program.

 

Michele Goddard

Senior Vice-President and Managing Director, Client Strategy and Execution, BMO Nesbitt Burns

Michele Goddard has been with BMO Financial Group since 1989 and has held increasingly senior positions during her tenure. In her current role, Michele is accountable for moving BMO Nesbitt Burns’ client experience agenda forward in order to achieve long term sustainable growth.

Michele holds a Bachelor of Administration from the University of Toronto. She is a Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute and has received the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors. She is currently Chair of the Board of Women in Capital Markets and has previously served as a director for the Canadian Depository for Securities.

Michele is a true Torontonian, having been born and educated in this great city. In her spare time, she and her partner Neal enjoy spending time with their standardbred horses and vacationing in Florida, California and Aruba.

 

Mike Savage

CPA, CA, Certified Fraud Examiner, Certified in Financial Forensics

Partner, Fraud Investigation & Dispute Services, Ernst & Young

Mike Savage is the practice leader for fraud investigation and dispute services for Ernst & Young in Canada. Mike is a CPA CA, a Certified Fraud Examiner, is Certified in Financial Forensics and is a faculty member of the Directors College, a Director certification program founded by McMaster University, the DeGroote School of Business and the Conference Board of Canada.

Examples of Mike’s activities include the following:

• Authored “Fraud risk in difficult economic times – questions for directors to ask”, a publication by the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.

• Contributed two chapters to “The Guide to Investigating Business Fraud”, a book published by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

• Presented on “Fraud Risk Assessment in International Organisations” for the international conference of the Institute of Internal Auditors.

• Coordinated Ernst & Young’s 8th webcast on the 10th and 9th global fraud surveys and participated in a global global fraud survey, which focused on trends in corruption.

• Mike designed Ernst & Young’s global anti-fraud solution methodology.

Mike has experience in fraud detection, fraud prevention programs, forensic accounting investigation, litigation support and dispute resolution. He has investigated allegations of asset misappropriation, corrupt practices and financial statement fraud and has testified in formal proceedings.

Mike has worked extensively in North America as well as places such as Hong Kong, China, Australia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Singapore, the UAE, the United Kingdom, much of Europe, Brazil and throughout Africa. and 9th global fraud surveys and participated in a global global fraud survey, which focused on trends in corruption.

Michael Liu

Manager, Commercial Banking – SME Development at National Bank of Canada

Michael Liu graduated from McMaster University in 1999 with a Bachelor of Commerce, followed by a Bachelor of Arts in Economics in 2000. Since then, Michael has been in the Financial Services industry for the past 11 years. Nine of those years as a Branch Manager and most recently, two years as Manager – SME (Small & Medium Enterprises) Commercial Banking. His current role allows him to work with various industry business owners (such as HealthCare professionals, Import/Export businesses, distribution, manufacturing and so forth) at different stages – from start-ups – expansion – winding down or sale of business and help each owner prepare for the situation properly.

 

Ling Zhang

ETF Research & Strategy, National Bank Financial

Ling Zhang is a key member of National Bank’s ETF Research and Strategy team. Ling’s work on National Bank’s trading floor focuses on providing both institutional clients and wealth portfolio managers with value-added research relating to Exchange-traded Funds. The group regularly publishes street-leading reports on the ETF landscape in Canada and the U.S., theme pieces, flow reports, model portfolios, trade ideas, and strategy reports. Their ETF research has been regularly featured in media outlets such as BNN, National Post, Canal Argent, and the Globe and Mail. Ling completed her Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Waterloo, and earned her Master of Finance degree from the Schulich School of Business. She has successfully passed all three levels of CFA exams.

 

Jun ShiPh.D. Physics

Associate Director – Quant R&D, Global Derivatives, National Bank of Canada

Jun Shi got his BSc degree in physics from Nanjing University, China in 2003, and later MSc/PhD degree in physics from University of Guelph, Canada in 2005/2010. From Oct.2009 to Apr.2011, Jun joined the risk model development team as a risk quant in Quantitative Analytics group at TD bank, and there he was actively involved in various Basel II trading risk models development (e.g. bond basis, DSR, iDSR, IRC etc.). Since Apr.2011, Jun has been working as a front-office interest rate/foreign exchange derivatives quant in the front-office quantitative research and development team under Global Derivatives at National Bank of Canada. Jun has been developing various mathematical pricing/hedging models for Rates trading desks (swap, mortgage, and option) and FX trading desks.

 

Dianna Zhang, MBA, CFA

Vice President, Economic Capital and Capital Efficiency at Scotiabank

Dianna currently is Vice President, Economic Capital and Capital Efficiency in Global Risk Management group in Scotia Bank (a multi-national Canadian bank). She leads a team responsible for pro-actively improving Economic and Regulatory Capital models, and conducting counterparty credit, and credit EC capital stress testing.

Dianna has over 16 years of financial analytics experience across enterprise risk, capital management and stress testing. Her extensive leadership experience in the enterprise risk management covers all risk types including counterparty credit risk, market risk, credit risk, operational risk, asset liability management and liquidity risk.

She is also President and Board of Director of Canadian Chinese Finance Association (CCFA). Dianna holds MBA and CFA designations.

She is an active presenter in multiple international conferences in North America and Asia. Her most recent presentation was in “Enterprise Stress Testing” in USA 2014 and PRIMA Canada and “7th Capital Allocation and Stress Testing conference” in New York in 2013. She also gave many seminars for career development in different functions and community events.
