Scarborough Summerfest 2013

Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto (CCC) will host the second Scarborough Summerfest from August 9 to 11, 2013.  A fusion of activities will take place starting from Friday evening running through Sunday, using both the facilities of CCC and the grounds outside the Burrows Hall Community Centre & Library (5183 Sheppard Ave East, at the junction of Progress Ave, Scarborough).  The opening event will be Young Artists in Motion on August 9 at 7:30 pm with exciting multicultural performances by talented youth in the P.C. Ho Theatre.

Dr. Ming-Tat Cheung, CCC Chairman and President, remarked “Chinese Cultural Centre is a cultural hub serving the most vibrant, diverse and multicultural GTA, including Scarborough.  The Scarborough Summerfest aims at celebrating multiculturalism in a fun-filled and entertaining fashion with all walks of life inScarborough and the neighbouring areas.  The festival will be showcasing different forms of music, dances, arts and crafts, foods and entertainment of diverse ethnicities.  We hope that the Summerfest can build stronger ties in our community who loves to make it an annual attraction.”

Opening Gala – Young Artists in Motion at P.C. Ho Theatre

Friday, August 9 from7:30 pm to 9:00 pm

The opening event highlights entertainment by young local artists featuring talented singers, dancers, pop and jazz bands.  Admission is free.  Tickets are distributed on a first-come-first-served basis.  For ticket information and reservation, please call 416-292-9293 ext. 221.

Multicultural Performances and Food Galore in Multi-Purpose Hall

Saturday, August 10 from 12 noon to 9:00 pm

There will be “cultural fusion” featuring artists from different cultures and genres of performing arts throughout the day.  Variety of food will be on sale to the public. Admission is free.

Children Drawing Contest in Multi-Purpose Hall

Saturday, August 11 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm

CCC together with the Chinese Professionals Association of Canada (CPAC) and Chinese Canadian Times (CCTimes) will jointly organize the Children Drawing Contest in celebration of International Friendship Day.  Children are welcome to join the junior (6-10) and senior (11-15) divisions to showcase their artistic talent on-site (details in separate press release).

Food booths will be located outdoor.

Jazz Festival Outside CCC & Burrows Hall Community Centre

The Scarborough Town Jazz Festival will soothingly entertain its attendees with Jazz and Latin music.   The air will also be filled with the sounds and music of some of our great young talents in the community.  Admission is free.  The public can also enjoy ethnic foods and game for children in the surrounding.
