Free Welder Pre-Apprenticeship Training Program- A Career That Is Not Easily Replaced by AI

Welding is an in-demand trade in Ontario with strong job opportunities and a relatively short apprenticeship. The average salary is about CAD $58,000, while experienced welders can earn over $80,000. With certification, welders can also start their own business. It is a stable career with strong long-term prospects.
CPAC, in partnership with Durham College, offers a Welder Pre-Apprenticeship Training Program for immigrants and youth from immigrant families. This program combines theoretical instruction with hands-on training to prepare participants for apprenticeship opportunities and employment in the high-demand, well-paying welding trade.
Program Content (25 weeks):
- Primary Trade: Welding (456A)
- Secondary Trade: Introduction to Industrial Mechanic Millwright (433A)
- Additional Training: Trade communication, math, health and safety, and job readiness skills
- Work Placement: Eight-week paid placement, including free safety equipment and tools
- Career Support: Employer connections and apprenticeship registration assistance
Eligibility Requirements:
- Canadian citizen or permanent resident status
- Canadian high-school diploma or a diploma/degree from a college/university in Canada or overseas (credential assessment is required for overseas education. For details, please visit Program Qs & As)
- Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) Level 5 or above for applicants with foreign credentials
- Commitment of 25 weeks of full-time training and work placement
Fees:
This program is free for eligible participants and includes textbooks, basic welding tools, and safety equipment. Participants will also receive a transportation subsidy upon successful completion of the program.
