Ms. Helen Cao Elected as CPAC’s New President
Ms. Helen Cao, former Vice President and Treasurer, was elected as the new President of CPAC following the 2024 CPAC Annual General Meeting, which was held on the evening of July 18, 2024 at CPAC’s Conference Hall.
This year’s AGM was chaired by Ms. Lynda Xu, Vice President and Chair of the AGM Committee. Outgoing president Ti Wang represented the 2023 work report. Ms. Helen Cao as outgoing Treasurer made the 2023-24 financial report. Five board members were re-elected. The AGM also appointed the auditor for the next year and recognized Kate Zhang for her 5 years of service at CPAC.
The president of CPAC is elected by the Board of Directors from among the directors. The term of presidency is two years, with a maximum of two consecutive terms.
Ms. Cao came to Canada in 1990 as an international student. She has a master’s degree in computer science and a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. She has worked at CIBC Wood Gundy and RBC World Markets before starting her own business. She has been actively involved in community service and has served on the boards of various organizations, including a member of the Executive Committee for the Centre for New Immigrant Well-Being (CNIW).
As the new president of CPAC, Ms. Cao said she is committed to enhancing CPAC in various areas. She aims to bring fresh perspectives to the board, develop financial resources, and strengthen the research, training, and advocacy efforts of the CPAC Institute. Her goal is to make CPAC a more influential and valuable non-profit organization in Canadian society.
The five re-elected Directors are Ms. Guangying Mo, Mr. Howard Shen, Ms. Bess Song, Mr. Andrew Xu and Mr. Bill Ye. Continuing Directors whose terms are not up for re-election are Mr. Ti Wang, Mr. Eric Xiao, Ms. Lynda Xu, Mr. Lawrence Yu, and Mr. Huge Zhao. Two board members, Stan Yu and William Liu, stepped down from the Board of Directors after many years of dedicated service.
CPAC, formerly Chinese Professionals Association of Canada, is a multi-dimensional organization that is an association of professionals, a career service provider, and a developing think tank. CPAC has close to 31,000 members from various cultural and ethnic backgrounds and provides career and skills development services to internationally educated professionals. It also facilitates, through the CPAC Institute, the understanding and elimination of systemic racism and barriers to equity, diversity and inclusion, through research, education and training, with the goal of achieving the full potential of a diverse and inclusive Canadian society.
