CPAC Foundation receives $100,000 from Hudson’s Bay Foundation for Anti-Racism Education
Toronto – CPAC Foundation is pleased to announce that it has been chosen by the Hudson’s Bay Foundation as one of its five partners in the launch of Hudson’s Bay Charter for Change, a commitment of $30 million over 10 years to organizations working to advance racial equity and inclusion. CPAC Foundation will receive a grant of $100,000 to continue its work in addressing anti-Asian racism.
With this new funding, CPAC Foundation will be able to produce a booklet with easy-to-understand information in multiple Asian languages for those who have language and technological barriers to access information online. The contents will include Canada’s human rights, hate crime and employment equity legislation, stereotypes, prejudices and different forms of racism, and practical guidance on how to deal with racial harassments and attacks, hate crimes and hate incidents, and racial bullying. The booklet will be distributed to the Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese and Filipino communities across Canada.
“We are very honoured to be a partner with the Hudson’s Bay Foundation,” said Ti Wang, President of the CPAC Foundation. “Anti-Asian racism is a serious problem that has plagued our society for centuries. Its recent surge during the COVID-19 pandemic has traumatized the East Asian communities. The HBF grant is a precious and timely gift to help us address this serious matter.”
“Racial equity is one of the most urgent issues facing society, and through Hudson’s Bay Charter for Change our goal is to create tangible and measurable change that makes a difference in the lives of Canadians,” said Iain Nairn, President and CEO of Hudson’s Bay. “With the recent rise in anti-Asian racism, it is imperative we support those who may feel vulnerable or threatened in our country.”
CPAC Foundation has in the past year conducted a series of anti-racism activities to combat the rise of anti-Asian racism due to COVID-19, including a public awareness campaign, a letter petition to government leaders and more than a dozen educational webinars. The information booklet will be an extension of the Foundation’s anti-racism education and empowerment effort.
CPAC Foundation wishes to express its sincere gratitude to Hudson’s Bay Foundation for its generous gift, and is committed to continuing its efforts in advancing racial equity and building a inclusive Canadian society.
